2026 Stargazing
Date: Friday, February 20th
Time: 6:30pm
Location: CHOA Clubhouse
RSVP is required. RSVP here by Sunday, 2/15
Grab your red flashlights, bundle up with your coats & winter hats, and join us at the Clubhouse for another fun evening learning about the Science & Fiction of Space Movies and a chance to look up at the night sky under the guidance of Crossings resident Jeff Silverman, Dr of Astrophysics.
Dr. Jeffrey Silverman will present a variety of astrophysics topics and discuss which movies got the science right and which not so much. From Alien to Armageddon to Apollo 13, Star Trek to Star Wars, and many more, he’ll separate the science from the fiction in a wide range of classic space movies.
Two Crossings residents, Chris P and Praveen R, will also be setting up their telescopes and tracking objects in the night sky alongside Jeff, so we will have the opportunity to peer through 3 telescopes.
- 6:30p – Welcome – check-in & grab a glass of prosecco, martinelli’s or hot cocoa & light snacks
- 6:45-7:15p – Presentation – The Science & Fiction of Space Movies
- 7:15-7:30p – Q&A
- 7:45-8:30p – Telescope Viewing
Jeff volunteers at the observatory at the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland and runs stargazing events and gives astronomy lectures around the Bay. We’re so excited to have him back!
The presentation is geared for all ages who can sit and enjoy a 30 min presentation.
If you are unable to make it for the presentation, or have a child who may not be able to sit for that duration of time, you are welcome to just join for the telescope time.
RSVP is required. RSVP here by Sunday, 2/15
Space is limited and RSVP will convert to a waitlist if limit is reached. Residents are allowed up to 6 attendees per household, including guests.
**In case of rain or covered skies, we will move the Stargazing event to Friday, 3/13.
